Finding comfort in the numbers

It was refreshing to read “Comfort and Joy” by Charles Perry [Dec. 22]. Los Angeles is burdened by enough trendy (snooty) restaurants that seem to exist for the sole purpose of providing crowded, overpriced and, in the end, disappointing dining experiences.
The 43 restaurants listed by Mr. Perry have survived because they provide diners with both excellent food (ranging from the simple hamburgers at the Apple Pan to the superb continental dishes at the Arches) and a wonderfully historic dining adventure.
By my count, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy 21 of them, and I look forward to the experience of visiting the other 22.
