Neck-biters
As popular as vampires may seem, they occupy a kind of niche in mostly modestly budgeted horror movies (the first three titles on this list notwithstanding). Films based directly or loosely on the title character of Bram Stoker’s novel figure prominently, but variations include the likes of “Blade,” the half-human vampire hunter, and Kate Beckinsale’s Selene, who returns to theaters today in “Underworld: Evolution.” Selene spent an eternity battling to keep Lycan legions at bay, only to fall for the wolfy half-breed Michael, played by Scott Speedman. Bill Nighy is back chewing scenery, among other things, as the lord of the bloodsuckers.
