Share

The last time Miss Terrible sprinted on the Santa Anita main track, the result was an 11-1 upset in the Las Flores Handicap last Feb. 27.

Since then, the Argentine-bred mare has won once in five starts racing at Hollywood Park, Churchill Downs, Keeneland and Arlington Park for owners Carol and Charles Hammersmith and trainer Bradley Ross.

A winner of 10 of 17 lifetime, the 7-year-old daughter of Numerous is back in Arcadia and will try for her first Grade I win in this country in the $250,000 Santa Monica Handicap today.

The seven-furlong race has drawn eight other entrants, including Leave Me Alone, who scratched from the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint on Saturday in favor of this spot.

Miss Terrible, who won four consecutive Group 1 races in her native country in 2002, will be ridden by Alex Solis, who was aboard for the win in the 2005 Las Flores and her victory in the Distaff Turf Mile less than three months later at Churchill Downs.

Owned by S.M. Mitchell Ranch LLC and trained by Eric Kruljac, Leave Me Alone, a 4-year-old daughter of Bold Badgett, will be seeking her second Grade I win. She won the Test at Saratoga by 7 3/4 lengths last Aug. 6.

Race of the day: A. P. Warrior, who was fourth behind Brother Derek in the Hollywood Futurity in his most recent start on Dec. 17 at Hollywood Park, will try for his first graded stakes win when he takes on five other 3-year-olds in the $250,000 El Camino Real Derby at Bay Meadows. A Grade III at 1 1/16 miles, the El Camino Real Derby also attracted Wanna Runner, who has won two of his last three for owner Mike Pegram and trainer Bob Baffert, Cause To Believe, Objective, Passive Income and Acolyte.

One for the road: Lune d’Or is a mare against the boys, but she can win with a clean trip in the $100,000 Mac Diarmida Handicap today at Gulfstream Park. Brice Blanc will ride the French bred, who had a ton of trouble in the Flower Bowl Handicap at Belmont Park in her U.S. debut last Oct. 1, for owner Haras du Mezeray and trainer Christophe Clement in the Grade III at 1 3/8 miles. The Mac Diarmida in the ninth on the card.

Exotically speaking: A late pick three using Primerica, Roy Jones and Danthebluegrassman in the seventh, Behaving Badly in the eighth and Smoke Dreams and Royal Falcon in the ninth.
