Costly American dream
Re “Antelope Valley Is Upscale Bound,” July 18
A five-bedroom house in the extreme climate of the Antelope Valley will cost hundreds of dollars a month to heat and cool. Its location many miles from job centers will cost hundreds of dollars a month more in commuting expenses. The green lawn is totally out of place in the ecology of the high desert and will cost thousands of dollars annually in water and chemicals to keep its verdant look. That sounds like a nightmare, rather than a dream, for financially challenged would-be homeowners.
