Girl Hospitalized After 2 Pit Bulls Terrorize Students, Staff at School
An 11-year-old girl was hospitalized Friday after being bitten by two pit bulls that ran onto her middle school campus and terrorized staff and students, San Fernando police said.
The girl, whose name was not released, suffered severe injuries to her left leg in the 7:30 a.m. attack, police said.
She was taken by helicopter to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, where she was listed in serious condition.
Police said the dogs had escaped from a house with no lock on its front gate and ran onto the San Fernando Middle School campus at 130 N. Brand Blvd.
They chased several girls into a bathroom, biting the 11-year-old, as others took refuge in the stalls.
A custodian stopped the attack by hitting the dogs with a trash can, police said.
The dogs also attacked police officers before running back to their house on Hagar Street.
The dogs’ owner, Orlando Vasquez, 18, was arrested on suspicion of allowing great bodily injury from mischievous animals, police said.
The dogs were turned over to Los Angeles County Animal Control officers.
