Forest Fire Burns 250 Acres
From a Times Staff Writer
A wildfire in the San Bernardino Mountains chewed through 250 acres of juniper and pinyon pines Friday, spitting thick black smoke but remaining about eight miles east of Big Bear Lake.
The Arrastre fire, named after a nearby creek, began about 1 p.m. Fueled by 10 to 15 mph winds, it was creeping east through forest as 250 firefighters, four helicopters and four tankers battled its flames.
As of Friday evening, the wildfire had not threatened homes and was about 20% contained. Its cause is under investigation.
