Pittsburgh Upset by Seton Hall

Donald Copeland scored Seton Hall’s last seven points over the final 1:56 and the Pirates ended No. 8 Pittsburgh’s 16-game home winning streak with a 65-61 victory Friday night that greatly improved their NCAA tournament chances.

Aaron Gray missed two free throws with 8.5 seconds left that would have tied it for Pittsburgh (21-6, 10-6 Big East), and Copeland followed several seconds later with two free throws to deal the Panthers their second consecutive loss and third in four games.

Kelly Whitney scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Seton Hall (18-10, 9-7) won its second in a row after three consecutive losses.

Pennsylvania 57, Yale 55 -- Eric Osmundson scored 15 points and Mark Zoller had 14 as the Quakers (19-7, 11-1) held off a late rally by the Bulldogs (15-13, 7-6) at New Haven, Conn., to clinch its second straight Ivy League title and become the first team to formally secure an NCAA tournament berth.

Chris McNaughton had 14 points to lead top-seeded Bucknell (24-4) to a 59-47 win over Army (5-22) in the first round of the Patriot League tournament at Lewisburg, Pa.... Shawn Witherspoon and Pearson Griffith each scored 14 points and Murray State (23-6) advanced to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament finals with a 69-64 victory over Jacksonville State (16-13) at Nashville. Murray State will next play Samford (20-10), a 73-66 winner over Tennessee Tech (19-12).... Trey Williams and Brian Fisk led a balanced attack with 13 points each as top-seeded Lipscomb (21-9) rolled to a 70-51 victory over Gardner Webb (17-12) to reach the finals of the Atlantic Sun tournament at Johnson City, Tenn. Lipscomb will next play Belmont (19-10), a 72-59 winner over Stetson (14-18).... Jeremy Clayton scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half as Appalachian State (14-15) pulled off a stunning 74-61 upset of league champion Georgia Southern (20-8) in the Southern Conference tournament quarterfinals at North Charleston, S.C.... Grant Stout had 16 points to lift sixth-seeded Northern Iowa (23-8) to a 57-42 win over third-seeded Missouri State (20-8) in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament at St. Louis.
