The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

John D. Fry, 28, of Lorena, Texas; gunnery sergeant, Marine Corps. Fry was killed Wednesday while trying to disarm an improvised explosive device in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Kevin P. Jessen, 28, of Paragould, Ark.; staff sergeant, Army. Jessen was doing a post-blast investigation March 5 when another improvised explosive device killed him in Rawah, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to the 22nd Chemical Battalion (Technical Escort) at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Dwayne P.R. Lewis, 26, of New York City; staff sergeant, Army. Lewis was killed Feb. 27 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire while on foot patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Justin R. Martone, 31, of Bedford, Va.; gunnery sergeant, Marine Corps. Martone was killed Tuesday by an improvised explosive device in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.

Ricky Salas Jr., 22, of Roswell, N.M.; private first class, Army. Salas was killed Tuesday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Mosul, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment in Friedberg, Germany.

Matthew A. Snyder, 20, of Finksburg, Md.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Snyder was killed March 3 in a non-combat-related Humvee accident in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to Combat Service Support Group 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Adam O. Zanutto, 26, of Caliente, Calif.; corporal, Marine Corps. Zanutto died Monday at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., of wounds suffered Feb. 25 when an improvised explosive device detonated in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
