Kahne Drives to Shootout Win in Busch Series Race
LAS VEGAS -- Kasey Kahne held off Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick in an overtime shootout to win the Sam’s Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Kahne, 25, was leading with two laps left in the 200-lap event when a caution flag forced a two-lap “green-white-checkered” overtime finish at the 1.5-mile speedway.
Driving a Dodge for Evernham Motorsports, Kahne led the restart and was never challenged.
“I was definitely a little bit nervous” on the restart, Kahne said. “I just was telling myself not to make any mistakes.”
Kenseth finished second in a Roush Racing Ford and Harvick was third in a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.
It was Kahne’s first win here, his first Busch Series victory since he won at Kansas Speedway last October and his fourth career Busch victory overall.
Kahne, a native of Enumclaw, Wash., qualified 10th and quickly worked his way into the front five. But it wasn’t until the race had fewer than 30 laps left that he passed Kenseth and Harvick to gain the lead.
