Times’ Elliott Wins APSE Writing Award

Helene Elliott of The Times won first place in breaking news in the large-circulation category of the Associated Press Sports Editors annual writing awards announced Tuesday.
Bill Plaschke of The Times tied for fourth in column writing and T.J. Simers received an honorable mention.
Times reporters David Wharton and Gary Klein finished fourth in project writing, and Wharton received an honorable mention in feature writing.
Sean Fuchs of the Antelope Valley Press tied for first place in breaking news in the under-40,000 circulation category and Brian Golden of the Antelope Valley Press was fifth in column writing.
The top five in each category will be presented awards at the APSE convention in Las Vegas in June.
