Scottsbluff Sets World Record
Scottsbluff, a 7-1 shot making his first start on turf, set a world record for 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass in winning the $70,800 Bullet on Monday at Hollywood Park.
Trained by Jeff Mullins for owner D.E. Weir, the 4-year-old Siberian Summer gelding ran the distance in 1:00.26, beating favored Taikun and four others by half a length. The final time bettered the record of 1:00.46 set by Pembroke on July 15, 1995, also at Hollywood Park.
Victor Espinoza rode Scottsbluff, who has won four of 12. The Bullet was his first start for Mullins after having been in the barns of Kevin Lewis and Dan Morgan.
