Seven people were shot Tuesday night as a Halloween street party in the Castro district wound down, police said.

The shooting occurred about 10:40 p.m. as authorities dispersed thousands of revelers under a new curfew aimed at controlling the raucous event.

Two people were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, and five others also were injured by gunfire, said police spokesman Sgt. Neville Gittens.
