Penny Rose won the Hollywood Costume Designer of the Year Award at the Hollywood Film Festival awards gala last month for her work on “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” Here, she talks briefly about the “Pirates” series.

What happened during the fitting with Stellan Skarsgard, who played Bootstrap Bill?

During the fitting of his jacket, Stellan asked, “Have you got any lemons?” He took two and popped them in each shoulder. I said, “You want all your bones to stick out!” And he hugged me and said, “You got it! Bless you.”

What will the costumes for “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” be like?

It’s going to be more visually complex than the second film. It has internationalized the world of piracy. The costumes have gone global, slightly Caribbean with a British accent. But I can’t tell you much more or it will ruin the surprise.

Does Jack Sparrow change his look for the third film?

“Jack Sparrow doesn’t change,” is what Johnny [Depp] told me when I called to ask him what Sparrow had been up to lately, where he’d been, if he had stolen a jacket from anyone. I think he added a skull to his belt buckle, but that’s it.
