Official pleads guilty to threatening mayor

A Maywood city official pleaded guilty Wednesday to threatening Mayor Thomas Martin.
Hector Duarte, 29, a deputy city clerk, also was accused of threatening Councilman Felipe Aguirre, who made national headlines by trying to make the small city south of downtown a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Authorities said Duarte feared city budget cuts could cost him his job.
