Pepperdine loses in double OT

James Powell scored nine of his 18 points in the second overtime and UC Santa Barbara extended its season-opening winning streak to four games with an 89-80 win over Pepperdine at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Chris Devine had 28 points and 13 rebounds, and Alex Harris had 27 points for Santa Barbara, which is 4-0 for the first time since 1992-93.

Santa Barbara led, 78-77, with 2:55 left in the second overtime, then Pepperdine (1-4) went nearly three minutes without a field goal before Marvin Lea made a layup with seven seconds left. The Waves made only three of 10 shots in the second overtime, 26 of 76 for the game.

Waves guard Jason Walberg made a jump shot as regulation ended to send the game to overtime, then made a three-point basket with 16 seconds remaining in the first overtime that tied the score at 72-72 and forced the second overtime.

Kingsley Costain had 20 points for the Waves, including 18 on three-point baskets. Walberg finished with 17 points.

No. 21 Nevada 83, UC Irvine 64 -- Nick Fazekas had 29 points and 14 rebounds, his fourth double-double in four games, and Marcelus Kemp scored 23 points for the Wolf Pack at Reno.

Kyle Shiloh added 15 points for the Wolf Pack (4-0), which went on a 10-0 run early in the second half to win its 12th straight at home.

Nevada shot 11 for 19 on three-pointers, including four by Shiloh, three by Fazekas and two by Kemp.

Patrick Sanders had 15 points and Adam Templeton 13 for the Anteaters (2-4).

Fazekas, one of 21 players in the NCAA to average double digits in scoring and rebounding last season, began the game averaging nearly 23 points and 15 rebounds per game.

San Diego State 79, UC Riverside 45 -- Kyle Spain tied his career high with 18 points and Brandon Heath scored 13 as the Aztecs (6-0) continued their best start in 22 years with an easy win at San Diego.

Spain made all six field-goal attempts, including a three-pointer, and was also five for five from the free-throw line.

Henrik Thomsen led the Highlanders (3-3) with 13 points, and Justin Bell had 12.
