Several elderly Asian women have been attacked and robbed by a couple posing as government workers, leading the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department this week to issue a public warning and sketches of the robbers.

The victims told detectives that a woman came to their doors posing as a worker from an unspecified government agency. After she gained entry, she would make the victims sit down and let in a man. He then tied up the victims, attacking them if they resisted.

The robbers ransacked the homes, taking jewelry and credit cards. Detectives said the robbers may have believed the women kept cash in their homes. The crimes were reported between Sept. 1 and Nov. 2.

In one case, a 74-year-old Hacienda Heights woman was hospitalized after being bound, kicked and punched. Another victim, a 68-year-old woman, was pepper-sprayed. A third woman was unhurt.

Detectives described the woman suspect as age 20 to 30 and weighing 100 to 110 pounds. The man is believed to be 30 to 40 and weigh about 250 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sheriff’s Det. Phil Solano at (626) 330-3322 or (626) 934-3024.
