Another odd BCS season

BCS: Boy, we Can’t get it Straight!

With all due respect to Michigan, the Wolverines had their chance to beat Ohio State and failed. Isn’t it now time for the best of the one-loss teams to see if they can beat the No. 1-ranked team? How soon we forget. Just a few years ago, Nebraska, a one-loss team, played in the BCS championship game without winning its conference. The entire college football world was in an uproar with the battle cry of “Never again.”

Where are the “L.A. Sportswriting Groundskeepers” when Michigan needs them? So much was made about last year’s USC-Notre Dame classic match in Charlie Weis’ “pasture.” Am I the only one who saw Michael Hart, Steve Breaston and the Michigan defense slip and slide on the Ohio State turf last Saturday? Just checking.

I really enjoyed watching the shootout in Columbus, but, I also observed two extremely porous defenses. Later on, I watched the USC defense shut down a high-powered offense for the second week in a row.

USC, fortunately, will have two more games that will garner great media attention. With wins, the Trojans should make up the minuscule difference that separates them from the BCS title game.

Michigan is now idle, and out of minds of those who do the polls. But the debate will rage on whether a team should ever lose ground to another team when they are idle, and this does make the point that the college football season should end for all teams at the same time.

“Brady Clutch”? Chris Dufresne must have been in a turkey-induced coma when he wrote this article. Since when has it become acceptable to call a quarterback clutch who is: 0-2 in bowl games, 0-3 (soon to be 0-4) against USC, and 2-7 against top 10 teams? How do last-minute wins against Stanford (1-10) last year and Michigan State (4-8) and UCLA (6-5) this year qualify as great competition?
