Albert Haynesworth of the Tennessee Titans won’t face criminal charges for scraping his cleat across the unprotected face of Dallas center Andre Gurode, and said Thursday he would seek counseling for his behavior.

But the 6-foot-6, 320-pound defensive tackle could not answer the one question everyone wants answered: Why?

“It was a blur. It was a big, big mistake and something I wish I could do anything to take that back,” said Haynesworth, who received a five-game suspension from the NFL.

Haynesworth spoke about an hour after Gurode’s agent announced the center won’t seek criminal charges against Haynesworth for stomping on his head during Sunday’s game.

The five-game suspension is three games longer than the highest previous penalty for on-field behavior.

Speaking publicly for the first time since having his spleen removed after a game last month, Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms said he’s not second-guessing himself about remaining on the field with an injury that possibly ended his season.

“I want to play football. I want to be out there. It’s what I love to do,” Simms said. “We were 0-2. We were losing 17-0 and we were making a pretty good comeback. I wanted to be out there. I don’t regret my decision one bit.”

Even though the pain was unlike any he had ever experienced, Simms said it wasn’t until he left the game before the last play of the third quarter that he began to suspect the injury might be more serious than cracked or bruised ribs. By the middle of the fourth quarter, he remembers thinking he might be bleeding internally.

“Every time I stood up or looked up, I was getting a little fuzzy. The curtains were coming down over my eyes, as you’ve heard people say before,” Simms said. “I just knew something wasn’t quite right.”

Miami Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper was added to the team’s injury report because of a shoulder problem, and missed at least part of the team’s workout.

The Dolphins did not specify if Culpepper, who tore knee ligaments last season and is still battling mobility issues caused by that injury, missed the entire practice.

He was listed as probable for Sunday’s game at New England.

One day after receiving a 90-day jail sentence for a probation violation in Washington, Koren Robinson practiced with the Green Bay Packers.

Robinson missed practice Wednesday to attend a court hearing in Kirkland, Wash., where he was sentenced to 90 days in jail after a judge determined he violated a probation established when he pleaded guilty to a DUI there last year.

Robinson will not have to serve his sentence until after the season and will be allowed to serve part of it under a work-release program.
