Suspect Arrested in 2 Hit-and-Run Deaths
A Winnetka man suspected in the hit-and-run deaths of a teenage couple on the shoulder of a San Bernardino County highway was behind bars Saturday.
Police say Enrique Hernandez, 23, was the driver of a minivan that veered off California 62 near Desert Hot Springs early Thursday and struck 16-year-old Tracey Nelson and girlfriend Samantha Nadine Schattler, also 16.
Nelson died at the scene. A passing motorist later found Schattler dead on top of the abandoned van.
Hernandez was arrested Thursday in a coin laundry in Canoga Park.
