Ainge threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to help No. 13 Tennessee become only the second team to score 50 points at Georgia as the Volunteers beat the No. 10 Bulldogs, 55-33.
The Bulldogs were giving up a nation’s-best 6.8 points per game -- only 34 all season. Tennessee scored more points than that in the second half. Only Florida, which won, 52-17, in 1995, has scored more points against the Bulldogs in Athens.
Ainge, a 6-foot-6 junior, put Tennessee ahead to stay in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, throwing a 15-yard touchdown pass to Robert Meachem that made the score 31-27.
Ainge, who completed 25 of 38 passes for 268 yards, gave all the credit to his offensive line, which prevented Georgia’s feared defensive ends, Quentin Moses and Charles Johnson, from getting close to him.
“I can’t say enough about the offensive line,” he said. “I can’t say that I ever felt the pressure. Football is easy when you have that much time.”
