Petros Papadakis and radio station 1540 parted company Tuesday.

Papadakis’ decision to leave came after meeting with station officials and executives from the Sporting News radio network, which owns the station.

“After carefully considering my growing broadcasting responsibilities at FSN and Spike TV ... I feel it’s time to put 100% of my focus into my TV career,” Papadakis said in an e-mail.

Papadakis has been a talk show host at 1540 for five years and has been in the 4-7 p.m. slot since early June. The station put Arnie Spanier’s network show in that slot Tuesday.

The station had wanted to put Papadakis’ show on the national network, but Papadakis resisted, believing his strength was doing a local show.

“The last five years at 1540 The Ticket have been the greatest ride of my life,” Papadakis said. “I want to thank the people at The Ticket for all their support and friendship. I appreciate the opportunity I had to develop as a broadcaster.”

Roger Nadel, the station’s general manager, declined to comment until completion of an internal review.

Papadakis’ growing TV work includes being FSN’s Pacific 10 Conference football game of the week commentator, and he is host of Spike TV’s “Pros vs. Joes,” which begins taping later this month.

He is also the analyst on two new FSN Bowl Championship Series shows, which this week begin airing on Fridays and Sundays.
