Black Interested in Managing Job

Angels pitching coach Bud Black, who has turned down managerial overtures from the Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians over the last four years, said Wednesday he is interested in pursuing a managerial position this winter.

“The timing is right for me to throw my name in the hat,” Black said.

Black denied an mlb.com report Wednesday that said he told the Texas Rangers he “was not interested in managing right now.” The report cited unidentified sources. Black said he did not speak with the Rangers.

Black, who lives in San Diego County and has expressed particular interest in West Coast jobs, said he has not been contacted by the San Francisco Giants but would be receptive to discussions with them. Black played for the Giants for four seasons and was a teammate of Barry Bonds for two.
