Update -- For the first time in its history, the Galaxy’s Major League Soccer season finale means virtually nothing. Los Angeles was eliminated from playoff contention with a 2-1 loss at Dallas last week and Dallas already has clinched first place in the Western Conference and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Essentially, Coach Colin Clarke’s side will be striving only to keep its momentum going into the postseason, not to mention a first-ever victory over the Galaxy at the Home Depot Center. As for the Galaxy, there is everything at stake for individual players, several of whom could be making their last appearance in a Galaxy uniform. General Manager Alexi Lalas and Coach Frank Yallop have promised extensive rebuilding before next season and, with the exception of Landon Donovan and Chris Albright, no players’ jobs are safe.
