Brendan Shanahan came to New York to take some of the Rangers’ scoring load off Jaromir Jagr’s shoulders.

He is doing that, and taking faceoffs, killing penalties and playing tough defense.

Shanahan scored his NHL-leading seventh goal of the young season, and the Rangers outlasted the New Jersey Devils, 4-2, Monday night at New York.

Chicago 5, Colorado 3: Martin Lapointe scored two goals, including the winner early in the third, and Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 19 shots at Denver.
