Teen recants claim that 2 men tried to grab her

A 15-year-old Cerritos High School girl who had said two men tried to grab her as she walked home from school has recanted her story, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

The girl said the incident occurred Tuesday; she returned to the sheriff’s station late Wednesday to say the incident had not occurred.

According to authorities, the teenager said she hoped to make her parents feel sorry for her by making up the incident.

Detectives are deciding whether to press charges of knowingly providing a false report of a crime, a misdemeanor.
