Spenditallbaby pursues first stakes win on grass

Share

Winless in three races on the main track, Spenditallbaby has won two of three on the turf, improving on the surface like a lot of other offspring of Unusual Heat.

The 2-year-old chestnut filly will seek her first stakes win on the grass in the $60,000 Hidden Light, a restricted race at one mile at Santa Anita. The Hidden Light is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $75,074.

Trained by Barry Abrams, Spenditallbaby was fourth in her first race on the grass -- a sprint at five furlongs July 13 at Hollywood Park in her career debut -- but is perfect in two routes on the surface. She beat maidens by 1 1/2 lengths Aug. 18 at Del Mar, then went north and won an allowance at Golden Gate Fields three weeks later.

Clinton Potts, aboard for her maiden win, is back on today against six others, including European imports Down The Well, Valbenny and Hucking Hot.

The other entrants are Hello Bolly, who beat Spenditallbaby in July at Hollywood Park; Stormin Jo Jo, a maiden winner last month on the Golden Gate grass, and her entrymate Betrluckythangood, who was an easy maiden winner on the local main track on Oct. 12.

Race of the day: Admiral Bird, who scored by a nose in his debut on the Keeneland turf Oct. 7, will race six other 2-year-olds in the $125,000 Bourbon today. Julien Leparoux will ride the Royal Academy colt for owner Dogwood Stable and trainer Christophe Clement in the 1 1/16 -mile contest. Twilight Meteor, who finished a nose behind Admiral Bird three weeks ago, is also in the Bourbon, along with Tacticality, Head To Toe, Marcavelly, Royal War Academy and Inca King.

One for the road: Lethal Missile is improving for trainer Dale Romans and can win his third in a row in the eighth race today at Aqueduct. Mike Luzzi will ride the 3-year-old son of Golden Missile in the $46,000 optional claimer at one mile for New York-breds.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using all in the sixth, Spenditallbaby in the seventh and Redstone Arsenal, Corkonian and Sylvan Hill in the eighth.

Winners: (previous day/meet total): 2/70. Money: (previous day/meet total): $9.40/$381.20. Total money bet: $394.
