It isn’t easy, but Choi takes charge

K.J. Choi made a double bogey and called it a good experience. He nearly made an ace on what he called a bad shot. It all added up to a five-under-par 66 on Friday that gave him a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Chrysler Championship at Palm Harbor, Fla.

Choi was at eight-under 134 and led Ernie Els (66), Jonathan Byrd (67) and Brian Gay (71) by one shot.

“Today is very good,” Choi said after his strange day that set up a chance to get into the Tour Championship next week with a victory. “My swing is very strong and my control is very good.”

Tom Kite eagled the par-four 11th hole for the second round in a row and finished with a four-under 68 to take a one-stroke lead over Jay Haas (66) and Jim Thorpe (70) in the Charles Schwab Cup at Sonoma, Calif. Kite is at eight-under 135.

Joo Mi Kim shot a six-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead over defending champion Jee Young Lee after the first round of the Kolon-Hana Bank Championship at Gyeongju, South Korea. Paula Creamer, Hee-Won Han and Jeong Jang were in a six-way tie for third after shooting 68s.

Annika Sorenstam shot a four-under 68 and led by five strokes halfway through the Dubai Ladies Masters. She was at 11-under 133. Karrie Webb (68) was at 138. Sophie Sandolo (71), Trish Johnson (67) and Tania Elosegui Mayor (70) were at 139.

Mickey Wright, 71, whom many consider to be the greatest female golfer in history, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and was undergoing surgery in West Palm Beach, Fla., the Palm Beach Post reported on its website.
