* Saturday vs. Utah, Rose Bowl, 4 p.m. (FSN Prime Ticket): Senior Brett Ratliff beat out Oklahoma transfer Tommy Grady and will start at quarterback for the Utes. Safety Eric Weddle was the Mountain West Conference defensive player of the year last season.

* Sept. 9. vs. Rice, Rose Bowl, 7 p.m. (FSN Prime Ticket): First-year Coach Todd Graham has his hands full trying to rebuild the Owls, who were 1-10 last season and lost, 63-21, to UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

* Sept. 23 at Washington, Seattle, time TBA: Senior quarterback Isaiah Stanback leads a Huskies offense that returns six starters. UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell is 3-0 versus Washington, which has lost five straight to the Bruins.

* Sept. 30 vs. Stanford, Rose Bowl, time TBA: Senior quarterback Trent Edwards must carry the Cardinal, which has not played in a bowl game since 2001. Stanford, 5-6 last season, has not won at the Rose Bowl since 1996.

* Oct. 7 vs. Arizona, Rose Bowl, time TBA: The Bruins will be looking to avenge last year’s 52-14 defeat to the Wildcats, who handed them their first loss. Sophomore quarterback Willie Tuitama will lead Arizona, which finished 3-8 last season.

* Oct. 14 at Oregon, Eugene, Ore., time TBA: Oregon has two capable quarterbacks in Dennis Dixon and Brady Leaf and a quality running back in Jonathan Stewart. But the Ducks, 10-2 last season, have not defeated UCLA since 2000.

* Oct. 21 at Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., 11:30 a.m. (Channel 4): Notre Dame returns quarterback Brady Quinn and his top receiver, Jeff Samardzija, from a 9-3 team. This will be the first game between the schools since 1964 and third ever -- the Irish won the previous two games played in South Bend.

* Oct. 28 vs. Washington State, Rose Bowl, 4 p.m. (Channel 7): The Cougars were 4-7 last season but lost five games by fewer than four points, including a 44-41 overtime defeat to UCLA at Pullman, Wash. Coach Bill Doba’s team returns 14 starters.

* Nov. 4 at California, Berkeley, Calif., 5 p.m. (Channel 7): The Bears return offensive standouts Marshawn Lynch, Justin Forsett, DeSean Jackson and Robert Jordan and key defenders Brandon Mebane and Desmond Bishop from an 8-4 team. Last year, Cal blew a big second-half lead in a 47-40 loss to UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

* Nov. 11 vs. Oregon State, Rose Bowl, time TBA: Former UCLA quarterback Matt Moore pilots Oregon State. Last season, also at the Rose Bowl, the Bruins won, 51-28.

* Nov. 18 at Arizona State, Tempe, Ariz., 7:15 p.m. (FSN West): The Sun Devils feature an explosive offense that returns 10 starters from a 7-5 team. UCLA’s last victory at Sun Devil Stadium was in 1994.

* Dec. 2 vs. USC, Rose Bowl, 1:30 p.m. (Channel 7): The Trojans have not lost to UCLA since 1998 and handed the Bruins their worst defeat of last season, 66-19, at the Coliseum. USC Coach Pete Carroll is 5-0 against UCLA.
