Jump On In to Go for It in Debutante

Share

Trainer John Sadler brought back one talented thoroughbred Saturday when Cindago beat Bob And John and Brother Derek in the El Cajon Stakes, and he’ll send out another today in the $250,000 Del Mar Debutante, a Grade I stakes race at seven furlongs.

Jump On In broke her maiden Aug. 6 in impressive style in her debut and will meet some other promising 2-year-old fillies in the Debutante.

An open secret at 4-5 in her initial outing, the daughter of Jump Start, who is a son of A.P. Indy, quickly made the lead under Corey Nakatani and never had to be asked for her best. At the finish of the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03 3/5 , she was a winner by 5 1/4 lengths.

Purchased for $410,000 at Barretts in May, Jump On In has worked three times since the victory, including six furlongs in 1:13 3/5 six days ago.

The field also includes the unbeaten Untouched Talent, who is the lone graded stakes winner in the cast. The Storm Cat miss won the Sorrento, a Grade III, by three lengths in her Del Mar bow Aug. 5. David Flores will ride Untouched Talent, who broke her maiden in a minor stakes race at Pleasanton on July 1.

Rounding out the Debutante lineup are Mistical Plan, Pinata, Point Ashley, Fillie By The Bay, Nushka Babee, She’s Included and Outofthepast.

Race of the day: Circular Quay, who has won the first two starts of his career, including a Grade III race at Churchill Downs, heads a field of five in the Grade I $250,000 Hopeful, the main event on the closing-day card at Saratoga. Garrett Gomez will ride the 2-year-old Thunder Gulch colt in the seven-furlong race. Circular Quay will be coupled in the wagering with Scat Daddy.

One for the road: Big Raise was well beaten in his sprint debut, but is bred to move up on the turf, so he could spring a surprise as he drops and stretches out in the third race today at Golden Gate Fields. Joey Castro will ride the 3-year-old Horse Chestnut colt in the $32,000 maiden claimer at one mile on the lawn.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Charm The Giant in the fourth, Swiss Ski and Vice Admiral in the fifth and all in the sixth.
