Oct. 7: Once a year, Alaska Railroad offers a train trip whose primary focus is views and microbrews. The Great Alaska Beer Train makes a 4 1/2 -hour round trip between Anchorage and Portage. The ticket includes six half-pints of Glacier BrewHouse beer, appetizers and vistas of the Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet. Seating is open for the trip.

Morro Bay, Calif.

Oct. 7-8: The town known for the colossal rock salutes all things fishy at the Morro Bay Harbor Festival, which turns 25 this year. There will be a variety of offerings during two breezy days on the waterfront: a 35-ton sand sculpture, a “Raingutter Regatta” for kids, beer and wine tasting, calamari and barbecued albacore, a display of maritime artifacts and a Hawaiian shirt contest. Live bands will entertain on three stages.

Tombstone, Ariz.

Oct. 26-28: Looking for a fight? You’ll find it in Tombstone. But spurs won’t be jangling at high noon. To mark the anniversary of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, re-creations will be held at 2:30 p.m., “at the exact time and in the exact spot” as the 1881 shootout, said anniversary committee chairman Jim Clark. “We will also re-create for the first time in 125 years the funeral procession as it was when they buried Billy Clanton and Tom and Frank McLaury.” Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park will showcase an exhibit of rare memorabilia related to the fight, which pitted the Earps and Doc Holliday against the Clanton gang. Additional events include an outdoor evening movie and a discussion panel featuring authors of westerns.

Lake Havasu, Ariz.

Oct. 27-Nov. 4: There will be pancakes and duck races by the London Bridge as part of Lake Havasu’s London Bridge Days. A Marine band concert kicks things off, and following days bring Bed Races, a parade, a pancake breakfast and the Duck Derby. A food festival features hearty fare from local restaurants including pizza, hot wings, spaghetti and meatballs, and a sock hop will benefit the building of a skate park in honor of a local soldier killed in Iraq. Rounding things out will be Halloween activities for the kids and a home-brew contest.
