Brentwood couple slain in Mercedes
Sept. 25, 1985: A Brentwood couple returning home from a Yom Kippur dinner were shot to death in their Mercedes-Benz, The Times reported.
“Neighbors in the 27-unit complex said circumstances led them to believe that Gerald Abraham Woodman, 67, and his wife, Vera, 63, were ‘executed’ about 10:30 p.m. by a pair of gunmen lying in wait in the subterranean garage of the complex,” the newspaper said.
Two of the couple’s sons were arrested and convicted for their part in the murders. So were two brothers they hired as hit men -- one a former Los Angeles police officer, the other an attorney.
Prosecutors said the brothers hated their father and wanted to collect on their mother’s hefty insurance policy.
