The 15th annual Race for the Cure set a record Sunday, with more than 24,000 joggers participating in a 5K to raise money to fight breast cancer.

The event raised more than $2 million for the Dallas-based Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, said Sally Coombe, an event spokeswoman.

A portion of the donations will be spent on research, while most of the proceeds will remain in Orange County for education, screening, diagnosis and treatment services for women and men, she said.

Last year’s record of 23,500 joggers was surpassed with Sunday’s 24,300 registered runners, Coombe said.
