Unbeaten Ravens Rally

Matt Stover kicked the Ravens to their first 3-0 start since the franchise moved to Baltimore.

Stover booted a 52-yard field goal with 20 seconds left Sunday, and the Ravens remained unbeaten with a 15-14 win over the Browns at Cleveland.

The 12th game-winning kick of Stover’s career came after Ravens cornerback Chris McAlister intercepted a pass by Cleveland’s Charlie Frye in the end zone with 3:21 remaining as the Browns (0-3) were driving.

Baltimore’s Steve McNair then went six for nine for 52 yards to set up 38-year-old Stover, who spent five years in Cleveland but left in 1995 when owner Art Modell moved his franchise to Maryland.

Cleveland led, 14-3, at halftime and was only one play from putting the game away.

McNair finished 23 for 41 for 264 yards and threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Todd Heap on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The Ravens sacked Frye seven times and limited the Browns to 91 total yards in the second half.

Frye, making big plays on the fly and shaking off Baltimore’s best shots, threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards and ran for another touchdown.

He had the Browns in position for a big win, but on second-and-goal at Baltimore’s four-yard line, he got blindsided by Ravens linebacker Bart Scott on his pass intended for Edwards.

McAlister, though, had excellent position and stepped in front of Edwards to pick off Frye’s throw.

McNair took over from there, completing four consecutive passes to move the Ravens into field-goal territory.

New York Jets 28, Buffalo 20 -- Chad Pennington capped three drives of 58 yards or more with touchdowns, and linebacker Victor Hobson’s 32-yard fumble return for a score helped the Jets at Buffalo, N.Y.

The Jets (2-1) won despite giving up 475 yards of offense and managing a mere 256 of their own, including 74 yards rushing.

They overcame career-best outings by running back Willis McGahee, who had 150 yards rushing, and J.P. Losman, who had 328 yards passing.

New York also overcame wet and blustery conditions, featuring steady 20 mph winds with gusts up to 40 from the west.

The difference for the Jets was the offense, which had five three-and-outs but had three long, efficient touchdown drives. Pennington didn’t need a third consecutive 300-yard passing game to pull this one out. He finished a modest 19 for 29 for 183 yards passing and a touchdown.

Miami 13, Tennessee 10 -- A 50-yard drive set up a 39-yard field goal by Olindo Mare with 3:39 left to help the sputtering Dolphins win at home.

The Dolphins improved to 1-2 -- not bad considering they have scored only four touchdowns this season. Tennessee is 0-3 for the sixth time since the franchise was founded in 1960.

Miami won although Daunte Culpepper was limited to 168 yards passing and was sacked five times, giving him 15 this season. Ronnie Brown rushed for 90 yards, including a 27-yard gain to set up Mare’s go-ahead kick.

For the first time in the Titans’ three games, rookie quarterback Vince Young didn’t play. Kerry Collins passed for 269 yards and his first touchdown this season.
