at Colorado 9, Atlanta 8: The Braves’ streak of 14 straight postseason appearances ended with a loss to the Rockies, who got a grand slam from Matt Holliday. Atlanta had won 14 straight division titles. The loss to the Rockies combined with the Phillies’ win over Florida eliminated Atlanta from the wild-card race.

at Milwaukee 5, San Francisco 3: Ben Sheets (6-7) pitched eight solid innings, Mike Rivera hit a bases-clearing double in the sixth and the Brewers completed a four-game sweep. The loss coupled with San Diego’s win over the Pirates eliminated San Francisco from the NL West race. The Giants trail the Phillies by seven for the wild card with seven to go.

at Houston 7, St. Louis 3: Roger Clemens got a no-decision but struck out six in his final home start of the season. Clemens tipped his cap and waved to the crowd in what may have been the second-to-last start of his 23-year career. Clemens, 44, has not said whether he’ll return next season.

at Cincinnati 3, Chicago 2: Royce Clayton’s pinch-hit single in the ninth inning drove in Chris Denorfia and lifted the Reds. The Cubs led, 2-1, in the ninth but Ryan Dempster (1-9) had his ninth blown save of the season. Aaron Harang (15-11) allowed six hits in his fifth complete game of the season, tied for the most in the National League.

Washington 5, at New York 1: Tony Armas Jr. (9-12) won for the first time in seven starts to lead the Nationals.

Around the league: Nick Johnson had surgery on his broken right leg, and the Washington first baseman is expected to be ready for spring training next year. He was injured Saturday in a collision with right fielder Austin Kearns.
