When back from tour, it’s all about what’s familiar

PIGEON JOHN may not be a household name, but the 33-year-old L.A. rapper has gained a strong underground following for his positivity, laid-back manner and humor. He’s also got a new album, “Pigeon John

Comfort food

Friday night, my friends like to go bowling at Pinz in Studio City, which is the bomb little place. We like bowling; it’s cheap, nice music, the beer is cheap.

I’m not a good bowler at all. After a few beers my wrist gets a little loosey-goosey. But I love doing it.

And then afterwards we go to Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles, get the classic chicken and waffle combo with the lemonade or iced tea.

I love visiting the classic L.A. stuff, like In-N-Out. Anything simple like that becomes major when you’re gone for three months on tour.

To the boardwalk

Harmony’s from Venice, so we go to Venice on Saturdays, hang out on the beach, eat some lunch right on the boardwalk, usually breakfast food, which is my favorite food -- pancakes, eggs, a bunch of coffee. We’re feeling nice, we’re hanging out, and then we usually fall asleep. I love going to the beach, putting a gang of suntan lotion on and falling asleep.

I’m a huge fan of movies, so we’ll see a flick every two weeks or so. We like the Third Street Promenade, going down there. We’ll eat at Broadway Deli. We get chocolate bread pudding and coffee. After the movie we go to the boardwalk, watch the dirty beach and just head home.

Faith and family

We go to church on Sundays at the Oasis Christian Center on Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea. I’ve been going there since I was 17, and that’s where I met Harmony. It’s a good little mix of spirituality but also seeing friends and family.

My mom lives in Long Beach, and us living in the Valley, the only time we get to see each other is there, especially ‘cause I’m gone at least six months out of the year, maybe up to eight, so for me it’s really important to see my family.

I love to go to Swingers, the one on Beverly, eat on the patio, breakfast burrito, boom. Then we either go to the movies or shopping on Melrose. We can’t afford the west Melrose, so we kind of stick over there by La Brea and stroll the streets.

And then me and my wife are big TiVo fans, huge; it’s like a child actually, so we have hours and hours of reality television that we have to spend watching. We’re big fans of “Run’s House” on MTV, about Run from Run-DMC. They’re the new Cosbys.
