* at New York 10, Baltimore 7: Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam off Chris Ray with two out in the ninth inning. Rodriguez, who homered twice, drove in six runs. Ray got the first two outs before Robinson Cano singled, Derek Jeter walked and Bobby Abreu was hit by a pitch. Rodriguez then connected on a 1-and-2 pitch for his 14th slam.

* Detroit 6, at Kansas City 5: Gary Sheffield, Ivan Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson homered off Gil Meche, who had limited the Boston Red Sox to one run in 7 1/2 innings in the Royals’ season-opening victory.

* at Chicago 3, Minnesota 0: Javier Vazquez yielded one hit in 6 2/3 innings and four relievers completed a three-hit shutout. Vazquez won for the first time since Aug. 10. He went 0-6 in his final 10 starts last season

* Toronto 8, at Tampa Bay 5: Frank Thomas hit a 453-foot grand slam to center off Casey Fossum. Thomas, who signed with the Blue Jays as a free agent after spending last season with Oakland, hit a 3-and-1 pitch in the second inning for his ninth career slam and 488th career homer.

* at Texas 8, Boston 4: Sammy Sosa hit the first pitch he saw from J.C. Romero in the sixth inning into the left-center field seats for a two-run homer, the 589th of his career. It was Sosa’s first at Rangers Ballpark, the 43rd different stadium where he has homered. That tied Ken Griffey Jr. and Fred McGriff for the most stadiums with a homer.

* Seattle at Cleveland: A forecast for more snow caused the postponement of a day-night doubleheader. It had been scheduled after Friday’s home opener was postponed because of snow. One of the games will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.

* at Angels 2, Oakland 1: Vladimir Guerrero drove in his major league-leading 10th run for the Angels, who are off to their best start since 1991, when they also won five of their first six. John Lackey (2-0) improved to 10-2 against the A’s.
