A 26-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in court today following a 1:30 a.m. alleged drunk-driving accident in Costa Mesa with four children in her car.

In addition to her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment, authorities said, Misty Lorie Castro of Los Angeles was also arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance and without a car seat for her 4-year-old son.

The woman who hit Castro’s car near Newport Boulevard and Broadway was also driving drunk, police said.

There were no injuries.

The accident occurred Saturday, when Castro made an illegal turn on Newport Boulevard and was struck by a car driven by Kavita Patel, 28, of Long Beach, police said.

In Castro’s car were three girls and a boy, ages 4 to 12, at least two of whom are hers. A man was also in the car.

Castro is in Orange County Jail, with bail set at $100,000. Before she went to jail, she had a serious asthma attack and was treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, said Sgt. Matt Grimmond, a Costa Mesa police spokesman.

Patel was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and released on her own recognizance, Grimmond said.
