at Oakland 2, Chicago 1 -- Mark Ellis singled off the wall in left against Bobby Jenks (1-1) with the bases loaded in the ninth after pinch-hitter Todd Walker tied the score on an RBI single. Huston Street (1-0) pitched one perfect inning for the win. The Athletics have scored two or fewer runs in each of their last five games, the longest such streak for the club since Aug. 20-24, 1980.

New York 10, at Minnesota 1 -- Alex Rodriguez homered in his fourth consecutive game to back a solid performance from Andy Pettitte at Minneapolis. Rodriguez became the ninth major leaguer, and first Yankee, to hit six homers in his first seven games of the season. Philadelphia’s Mike Schmidt hit seven homers in the first seven games of the 1976 season.

at Boston 14, Seattle 3 -- The Red Sox pelted World Series star Jeff Weaver with seven runs in the first two innings in their home opener. Boston pitcher Brendan Donnelly, a former Angel, was ejected after hitting Kenji Johjima in the eighth. Jose Guillen, the batter before Johjima, was ejected after striking out and exchanging words with Donnelly.

at Texas 12, Tampa Bay 9 -- Frank Catalanotto hit a three-run homer in a seven-run third inning and Kenny Lofton reached base five times, going three for three with a homer, three runs scored and three RBIs for the Rangers at Arlington.

Detroit 3, at Baltimore 1 -- Nate Robertson took a shutout into the eighth inning, and a throwing error by Brian Roberts provided the Tigers with all the runs they needed.

Kansas City 6, at Toronto 3 -- Alex Gordon hit his first career home run, Zack Greinke held the Blue Jays to a run in six innings and the Royals ended a three-game losing streak.

Cleveland 7, Angels 6 (at Milwaukee) -- Pinch-runner Erick Aybar was caught trying to steal second to end the game.
