Man who was in van that tree hit dies at hospital
From Times Staff Reports
An Anaheim maintenance worker seriously injured last week when winds toppled a large ficus tree onto the parked van in which he was sitting has died, authorities said Saturday.
Michael Gandy, 49, died about 3 p.m. Friday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he had been taken after the 4:30 p.m. accident Wednesday in the 300 block of Archer Street.
Firefighters cut Gandy out of the van with an air chisel after the 60-foot tree crushed it, trapping him inside.
