Avengers lose third in a row on road, 73-49
Mark Grieb threw eight touchdown passes and the San Jose SaberCats cruised to a 73-49 victory over the Avengers on Saturday night at San Jose.
The SaberCats (4-3) never trailed in scoring their second victory over the Avengers (3-4). San Jose won, 66-58, in the season opener at Staples Center.
Grieb completed 23 of 28 passes for 330 yards. Six of his scoring passes went to James Roe, who had eight receptions for 130 yards.
Sonny Cumbie completed 22 of 38 passes for 288 yards and six touchdowns. He had three passes intercepted. Cumbie had only two interceptions entering the game.
Lenzie Jackson led the Avengers with nine receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown.
The Avengers have lost three in a row on the road but return home Saturday to play Grand Rapids.
