* Minnesota 5, at Detroit 3: Joe Mauer’s pinch-hit two-run single capped a four-run eighth inning to lead the Twins.

* Texas 5, at Toronto 3: Sammy Sosa hit his 595th career home run and Mark Teixeira and Brad Wilkerson each had two-run shots to fuel the Rangers’ victory.

* Tampa Bay 4, at Oakland 1: James Shields (2-0) got the victory over Chad Gaudin (1-1), who was once a Devil Rays minor leaguer.

* at Seattle 7, Kansas City 4: Horacio Ramirez pitched into the seventh inning after giving up five hits and seven baserunners in the first three, Jose Lopez homered for the second straight day, and the Mariners earned their season-high fourth straight victory.

* Boston 11, at New York 4: Given a 4-2 lead after the Yankees scored four in the fourth, New York starter Andy Pettitte immediately gave the advantage back, forcing in the tying run with a bases-loaded walk and allowing the go-ahead run to score on a wild pitch.

* at Chicago 7, Angels 3: Jermaine Dye hit two home runs and Jose Contreras (2-2) got the victory for the White Sox, who turned three double plays.
