* Kansas City 8, at Seattle 3: The Royals ended the Mariners’ five-game winning streak. Jeff Weaver (0-4) gave up five hits to start the game and didn’t make it out of the first inning. His earned-run average is 18.27.

* at Oakland 12, Tampa Bay 5: Travis Buck hit a three-run homer in a six-run first inning for the Athletics and Eric Chavez had a three-run drive in the seventh. Dan Haren (3-2) struck out a season-high seven and gave up two earned runs in 7 1/3 innings.

* Baltimore 7, at Cleveland 4: Baltimore led, 2-1, in the top of the third with Nick Markakis on third base and Miguel Tejada on first and one out. Ramon Hernandez’s line drive to center field was caught, and Markakis tagged up and headed for home. Tejada was around second when the ball was caught and was thrown out trying to get back to first. It appeared Markakis crossed the plate before Tejada was called out at first, but plate umpire Marvin Hudson waved off the run. After the Indians scored a run in the fifth to tie the score, 2-2, it was announced in the bottom of the sixth that the Orioles’ run in the third counted, giving Baltimore a 3-2 lead. The Indians played under protest.
