Girl stabbed in Santa Ana; suspect held
A Santa Ana man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Thursday after a 7-year-old girl was stabbed several times.
The incident occurred in the 800 block of East Beverly Place, near South Oak Street, police Cpl. Jose Gonzalez said.
Officers responding to a domestic-disturbance call about 8 a.m. found the girl had been stabbed several times in the chest and neck while in the bathroom, police said. The girl’s baby-sitter lives in the home, police said.
Nicolas Almanza, 32, of Santa Ana was arrested at Chestnut and Standard avenues. Relatives told KCAL-TV Channel 9 that Almanza is mentally ill. Police said they were trying to confirm that report. The suspect is related to someone who lives in the baby-sitter’s residence.
The girl was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she was in critical condition, officials said.
