On another plane altogether

As World War II ended, Southern California aviation suppliers retooled their aluminum fabrication factories to produce furniture. One of the pioneering firms was the now-defunct Burbank-based Deeco, says Andy Hackman of the home furnishings store California Living. Deeco produced this 1946 armchair as well as a matching sun chaise, both made of tubular aluminum and spring-and-slat seats. Hackman uncovered a stash of the pieces, buffed them to like-new condition and plumped them up with Sunbrella cushions in orange or Capri blue. The chairs are $1,750 each; a chaise is $2,000. 601 N.
