U.S. antitrust authorities again lost a request for a federal court injunction that would stop organic grocer Whole Foods Market Inc. from combining with rival Wild Oats Markets Inc.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman denied the Federal Trade Commission’s request to stop the deal. The agency appealed and asked the judge to issue a stay pending the result of the appeal. Friedman, however, denied the government’s request for a stay.
