Road rage attacker gets 38 years to life
A man was sentenced Friday to 38 years to life in prison for attempted murder during a road rage attack.
Robert Charles Berg, 62, was convicted earlier this year in the attack on Duane Kressen, 29, of Costa Mesa.
In September 2006, Kressen was driving with friends and encountered Berg, who was alone in his truck, prosecutors said. Passengers in Kressen’s car began taunting Berg, and the confrontation escalated as both cars entered the 55 Freeway.
Berg cut the other car off on a ramp, forcing it to stop, according to prosecutors. He got out of his car and challenged Kressen and his friends to fight.
As Kressen approached, Berg pulled a semi-automatic pistol out of his truck and shot Kressen once in the chest before fleeing, prosecutors said.
