Arizona 12, at Atlanta 6: Rookie right-hander Micah Owings went four for four, including two homers, and drove in six runs while pitching three-hit ball through seven innings. All three hits were solo home runs.

at Chicago 5, St. Louis 3: Daryle Ward hit a grand slam to help the Cubs win for only the seventh time in 17 games. It was the first homer of the season for Ward.

at Milwaukee 8, Cincinnati 4: Gabe Gross and Geoff Jenkins each hit three-run homers to help the Brewers’ end a five-game losing streak. They had been outscored, 42-14, during the skid.

San Francisco 4, at Florida 3: Barry Bonds extended baseball’s home run record to 760 with a two-run shot that lifted the Giants in front of 42,817 -- the biggest home attendance for the Marlins since opening day 2005.

New York 7, at Washington 4: Luis Castillo homered for the first time since July 16, 2006 -- a span of 674 at-bats -- to back Oliver Perez, who won for the first time in four starts. The Mets lost infielder Damion Easley to an injured left ankle in the sixth inning. He sustained a grade-three sprain.

at Pittsburgh 11, Philadelphia 6: Third baseman Abraham Nunez’s two-run throwing error put the Pirates in the lead for the first time and they withstood the Phillies’ four-run first inning and two early home runs. The Pirates lead the league in runs scored (120) and home runs (27) in August.

Houston 3, at San Diego 2: The Padres fell a season-high five games behind the Diamondbacks.
