A 60-year-old John Marshall High School teacher has been arrested on suspicion of molesting students in the school’s special education program, authorities said Tuesday.

Fred Johnson was arrested Monday evening by the Los Angeles Police Department’s sexually exploited child unit and booked on suspicion of lewd acts with a child and a dependent adult. He is being held in lieu of $800,000 bail.

An aide in Johnson’s class at the Los Feliz school told the principal Aug. 10 that she had seen Johnson display inappropriate behavior toward several students, authorities said. The LAPD was notified, and an investigation began.

Suspicion was also raised when co-workers discovered photos of youngsters in stages of undress, according to sources familiar with the case.

Detectives conducted interviews at the school and identified three victims of sexual assault, ages 14 to 19, police said.

Johnson has worked at Marshall since 1992. He has been reassigned to a non-school site pending the outcome of the investigation.

Parents at Marshall received a letter informing them of the investigation.
