Brewers keep pace with late outburst
PHOENIX -- Gabe Gross hit a grand slam to cap a five-run seventh inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-4, on Tuesday night.
J.J. Hardy was three for four with a run-scoring single and Rickie Weeks added a run-scoring triple for the Brewers, who remained tied with Chicago for first place in the NL Central.
The Diamondbacks lost three in a row for the first time since July 15-17 but stayed 31/2 games ahead of San Diego atop the NL West.
Arizona’s Mark Reynolds tied the major league record for consecutive strikeouts by a non-pitcher when he fanned in his ninth straight plate appearance. Five others share the record.
