The art agency that bought a book of fairy tales by J.K. Rowling for nearly $4 million at a London auction Thursday turns out to have been acting on behalf of Amazon.com, and the Web retailer wasted no time in posting photos and information about its purchase Friday at www .amazon.com/beedlebard.

The book, “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” was handwritten and illustrated by Rowling after she finished her “Harry Potter” series. There are only seven copies: She gave six to friends and auctioned the other for charity.

In a review of one of the five stories, “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” Amazon editor Daphne Durham noted how Rowling’s “handwriting gets messier when the story picks up speed, like she’s hurrying along with the reader.”

A posting from the company on a discussion board said it was formulating plans to send the book on a tour of libraries and schools.
